In an official announcement, Hannah Minghella, president of production at Song Pictures spoke about the choice to cast Chloe Moretz as Cassie the The 5th Wave movie. Rich Yancey also commented on the news via Twitter, saying he thinks Chloe is "perfect" for the role. Read the announcement below:

I read The 5th Wave by Rick Yancy in February this year but instantly feel in love with the characters and daring story that Yancy takes on in this modern Sci-Fi. Now I cannot wait for the movie to be released!
