It was supposed to be the best summer of Maggie's life. Now it's the one she'd do anything to forget. Maggie remembers hanging out at the gorge with her closest friends after the party the night before. She remembers climbing the path hand in hand with her perfect boyfriend, Joey. She remembers that last kiss-soft, lingering, safe. So why can't she remember what happened next? All it takes is ONE second for everything to change. One MOMENT to realise that it's the people you love who hurt you the most. Review by Charli-Valentine I picked up this book a few months ago after my friend and I absolutely fell in love with the front cover, and - not judging a book by it's cover - the story just sounded to compelling I had to buy it. And it was just a breathtaking read! |
I love stories that have an action packed first chapter and don't drag out the beginning, and that is exactly what you get with ONE MOMENT. And there is not a dull moment throughout.
After the events at the gorge in the first chapter you go along life with Maggie as she attempts to deal with these happenings. Along the way secrets are revealed and hearts are broken. As you find out everything along with Maggie I found myself so drawn to the characters and the story, and even though this was my second time re-reading the book, I seriously could not put it down!
The character development in this novel is brilliant, not only with Maggie but with all her friends. Maggie is one of my favourite female characters to read. She is realistic and believable. The things that happen to her in regards to love and friendship, and the way she feels is so relateable to almost every teenage girl.
Apart from Maggie, my favourite character is Adam. He is cute and sweet, and is simply one of the good guys in the world. This book fills you with extreme mixed feelings with the characters as ones that you start off loving you can end up wanting to hate but you really can't.
Over all this is a beautiful and emotional read that is definitely one of my all time favourites. Kristina McBride is a very talented writer, and an inspiration to wannabe authors like myself!
I give ONE MOMENT 3 Stars out of 3 and recommend it to any and all YA & NA lovers!
